Buddha Zhen Explores Teaching and Learning in Las Vegas
Realizing Buddha Zhen's financial crisis in 2011, Rev. Baugh offered, "You need an opportunity. Come to Las Vegas and start a school here."
Rev. Baugh also offered to teach Buddha Zhen lion dancing which is the primary source of income for the Las Vegas Shaolin Lohan school.
As Kung Fu brothers, Rev. Baugh and Buddha Zhen have been friends since 1981 when they were both attending Tai Mantis Federation in Torrance, California. Buddha Zhen has always looked up to Steve who was a black belt in the Southern Kung Fu before joining Tai Mantis. Coincidentally, Buddha Z was also studying the same Kung Fu before he joined Tai Mantis. So their friendship goes back many decades and includes mutual respects for their pursuits in spirituality and religion also.
Since Buddha Zhen was certified by Grandmaster Wong Jack Man to be a Jing Mo school, Buddha Zhen has not had an opportunity to study or learn any new Kung Fu since 1997. Since then, Buddha Zhen has been teaching his curriculums and improving the Kung Fu he started learning in 1980.

Sangha of Shaolin Zen in Vegas?
In 2001, Buddha Zhen sought to create a Buddhist Sangha where he lived.
Many locations were considered with the best possibilities being the downtown area of Montrose.
A particular cafe offered itself and concrete benches were tested.
Not owning a laptop, Buddha Zhen sought students with laptops to bring them for use in these Sunday Sanghas.
With transportation problems, and caring for his two children, these Sangha meetings were difficult. So they were moved to the Tujunga kitchen of Buddha Zhen. Already teaching classes in his back and front yard, this home became known as "House of Zhen."
A website bore that name for many years until Buddha Kung Fu was founded and most classes were focused on CV Park with its computers and tables.
But the Sangha of Shaolin Zen never took root in California like it did in Salt Lake City from 1994 to 1999.
Will Las Vegas be a fertile ground for the Buddhism of Shaolin Zen? Reverend Steve Baugh says it will be. He's explained to Buddha Zhen that the people who live in Las Vegas are very different from the people who come to gamble there. He said there is a large opportunity for the Buddhism of Buddha Zhen to prosper in Nevada.

Senior Students Responsible for Kung Fu School
In Buddha Kung Fu, like all traditional Chinese martial arts, there is a seniority system.
The longest attending students should be the highest ranking and accordingly the highest authorities.
The two highest ranking students of the school are the most important of all. The highest ranking is the "Right-Hand Man" of the master. The second highest ranking student is the "Left-Hand Man" of the master.
As a martial art these two are the primary protectors of their master. The Left-Hand Man would run errands and care for the master while the right-hand man would protect and defend the master with his life.
That is another reason why the Buddha Kung Fu Student Manual is significant. Americans do not understand these concepts of loyalty and devotion, so the book was designed to nurture these traditional concepts of respect and obedience.
Students are the body of the school. Without the students, there is no student body. Without a student body, there is no school.
Senior students are the spirit of the school. Without the senior students, there is no hierarchy or chain of command. Without this chain of command there is no order.
The Shifu is the mind of the school. Without a Shifu, there is no direction or past or future for the school. Without this direction there is no martial arts system at all.
So a Kung Fu school is:
1. Shifu
2. 2 senior students (right-hand man / left-hand man)
3. students
In Confucian terms:
1. father
2. older Brother / mother
3. younger brothers

Yang Style Tai Chi Short Form of Shaolin Chi Mantis
When performing your Tai Chi form in tournaments or events, use its full name and you'll avoid criticisms and gain compliments and questions.
"I am performing the the Yang Style Tai Chi Short Form of Shaolin Chi Mantis."
That's my favorite way to say it.
By adding the "Shaolin Chi Mantis" to the form name, you establish why it is unique and where it comes from. Shaolin Chi Mantis is recognized internationally and has been listed in the "Martial Arts Directory" of Kung Fu Magazine since 1994.
