Online Classes Not Available Until Computer Obtained
We've attempted a couple fund raisers, but we're barely paying our storage and expenses.
Sorry to sound so bleak, but our students are bringing in any new students the past year. The Buddha Kung Fu 12-Step 12-Week Kung Fu Bootcamp has a consistent turnout and a few new students each semester, but we need a few new students every week or our founder, Buddha Zhen will be in serious financial trouble.
Traditionally, students supported their Kung Fu or spiritual master. Your tuitions are very supportive, but add these tuitions and ask yourself if you could survive on this amount of income. Buddha Zhen has two children support. He has devoted much of his life to raising and caring for them. The rest of his time is spent teaching students, writing our manuals, and overseeing the curriculums.
Tai Chi Youth was supposed to fill in this financial gap with a salary and school location, but this has also been dependent on student support and promotion.
Your suggestions are are as important as your involvement and payments.

Push Hands Championship Tournament was Fun Seminar
We weren't able to attract as many locals or other martial artists, so this was mainly an opportunity for students to obtain a Belt Test requirement or have fun with their classmates.
But it wasn't a tournament. It was a Push Hands seminar.
For me, the best part was competing with everyone. I challenged the entire school and enjoyed giving everyone a Push lesson.
I even got so cocky as to take on two at a time, one on each side with one arm each. I impressed myself.
We've got to figure out how to promote these tournaments to attract more martial artists.
I was disappointed we didn't get the photographs I was promised. The parents and students who said they would get some photos had technical problems. In the future, we need a "BKF Photographer" we can count on.

Buddha Zhen Submits Grants for Government Funding
Will the government supply Tai Chi Youth the grant funds to launch our online school?
Richard Del Connor has been working all this year on relaunching Tai Chi Youth by studying nonprofit manuals, taking courses, and attending chamber of commerce meetings.
Becoming a grantwriter has also required over 100 hours of study and work this year by RDC / BZ.

Belt Testing Approvals
Several students could graduate if they book some private lessons.
The bookwork is the most difficult requirement of Buddha Kung Fu. Although we've been keeping up with the Tai Chi Beginner book requirements, the Buddha Kung Fu Student Manual reading requirments should involve traveling the links to the webpages in the book. Perhaps we can create online courses for this which are more convenient for students.
As mentioned in a previous newsletter, we can book several students into a private lesson to make them more affordable.

Shaolin #5 Completed for Buddha Kung Fu
This last semester was the first time that students rose to a level to learn this ancient Shaolin Kung Fu form.
Buddha Zhen really enjoyed teaching it to disciples Shawn and Jessica. They experimented and fooled around with it extensively.
Thanks to Shifu Rick Wing and his book, Shaolin 5, for additional information and variations to consider for our school version. We only have a few variations from the pictures in his book. All students will be required to purchase Shifu Wing's book in the future when taking this semester class.

New Edition of SHAOLIN KUNG FU INITIATE book
After retypsetting the Shaoin Kung Fu Beginner book, I was unable to find a copy of the Shaolin Gongfu Initiate book. The original version of the Shaolin Gongfu Initiate was created from excerpts of the Shaolin Kung Fu Beginner book, so I figured I'd do that again.
So what should I use from the Shaolin Kung Fu Beginner book to warn/advise/teach someone is expected of them from Buddha Kung Fu and Shaolin Chi Mantis. Well, everything in it!
Rather than making it easier on the initiate by giving them less to learn and less to expect, I decided to give them the entire Shaolin Kung Fu Beginner book. If they make it through the book and the SCM Initiate Program, they will be "real" members of the school. This means that our expectations of them are increased. This also means they should apply themselves more diligently to our expectations and requirements. So even answering the questions in the Shaolin Kung Fu Beginner book that are the same as in the Shaolin Gongfu Initiate... should be improved.
The book title has been changed from Shaolin Gongfu Initiate to Shaolin Kung Fu Initiate. Surprisingly, the world is less aware of the proper Mandarin Chinese spellings now than they were in the 1990s.

Shaolin Chi Mantis T-Shirts
Should we only allow students who are members of Shaolin Chi Mantis to wear SCM T-shirts in our classes?
Outside of class, we have no restrictions. Anyone can buy them, so anyone can wear them.

Is Buddha Zhen the Reincarnation of Bodhidharma?
We're being metaphorical rather than specific.
All our schools do offer the concept of reincarnation, and although Buddha Zhen is not claiming to be a reincarnation of Bodhidharma--he is as close to a reincarnation as you probably could be in the curriculums, lessons, and spiritual teachings he offers.

First Students to Learn Chinese Broad Sword
This semester is the first semester that students rose to the level requiring and offering the Chinese Broadsword Program. Disciples Shawn and Jessica have been learning this ancient sword form from Buddha Zhen.
This is the "Jade Ring Dao" sword form of the Tai Mantis lineage.
When they practice this Kung Fu dance they take up the entire courtyard with its running jumps and chasing the enemies...

Tiger Hook Swords of Tai Chi?
It's been 13 years since Buddha Zhen performed the Tai Chi Form with his Tiger Hook Swords.
Some students have also been inspired to learn the Tai Chi Form with their long staffs. These weapons add a new dimension to the slow moving form and make it more interesting to audiences.
Lately, students are distracted watching Buddha Zhen apply the Tai Chi movements to these spectacular weapons. In Utah, the Salt Lake City Mayor and Chief of Police complimented Buddha Z for his performances with them. Perhaps these made Tai Chi more interesting to the audiences and helped inspire people to join the school back then.
Should Buddha Z perform the Tai Chi Form with the Tiger Hook Swords again?

Zen Buddhist Podcast "BUDDHISM BASICS" of Shaolin Zen
We're still unable to post these podcasts due to expense limitations. If you have them, store them and share them with your fellow students.
These were our most popular podcasts. They also were the most controversial with feminists criticizing Buddha Zhen for his Confucianism.
