November 2010

November is Annual Meeting / Tournament

Buddha Kung Fu, "The school for making Buddhas™,"
was founded in 2008 by Buddha Zhen, using the Northern Shaoiin and Yang Tai Chi curriculums of
his Shaolin Chi Mantis traditional Buddhist Gongfu school.

At the bottom of each BuddhaKungFu.com webpage is a link titled, "Press."

This month's uploaded flyer is our recent "Combat Tai Chi Flyer" flyer.

Now I'm getting aggressive. Perhaps it is my disappointment in the YMCA not promoting our TRADITIONAL and "REAL" Tai Chi instead of the Senior Tai Chi and "Gentle Tai Chi."

The public, in general, need to know what Tai Chi really is. These "Gentle Tai Chi" classes are distorting the image of Tai Chi into "slow moving meditation..." which is only a section of our Tai Chi program.

Tai Chi is a martial art and you can't beat anyone up in slow motion.

1. -- Buddha Kung Fu EVENTS --

SCM, BKF, TCY Annual Chinese Gongfu & Taijiquan Tournament

First weekend of November:   PUSH HANDS SEMINAR

Second weekend of November:   FREE Judging Seminar / Demo Tournament

Third weekend of September:   ANNUAL SCM, BKF, TCY Gongfu & Taijiquan Tournament

Fourth weekend of September:   SCM, BKF, TCY Annual Membership Meeting

I need your help everyone.

Let's make this a fun month with some really cool events. I cannot support these events financially. We need some food for the tournament, volunteers, time keepers, score keepers, and we need some promotion to get some people to show up.

Of my 20 students in the YMCA classes, only one senior has committed to helping us, and a couple from the Tuesday night Tai Chi class, but that's not enough.

I really need some help. Can someone make phone calls to all our past members and invite them to come?

4. -- Buddha Kung Fu DEMO TEAM --

Annual Tournament Cancelled

Bummer, we're cancelling our tournament. We decided that we need at least 6 Push Hands contestants to have a real tournament. And that's one division with all 6 in it.

Since I can't compete, we only had 5 other people scheduled. This is heart breaking. I would like to see our tournaments GROW in popularity each year. Our first public tournaments were in 1994.

Tell me what we need to do to get these tournaments popular...

1. The JUDGING SEMINAR / DEMO TOURNAMENT (2nd weekend of November)

2. SCM, BKF, TCY Annual Chinese Gongfu & Taijiquan Tournament (3rd weekend of November)

3. The BKF, SCM, TCY Annual Membership Meeting, (Saturday after Thanksgiving)

We are still going to have our Annual Membership Meeting. I'm glad to announce we have two graduations. The graduation party will be at the Joy of Luck Restaurant following our class.

5. -- BOOKS of Buddha Kung Fu --

Future of Buddha Kung Fu = Tai Chi Youth?

I am very concerned about how I can publish our Shaolin Kung Fu Beginner book, Tai Chi Intermediate book, and even our Tai Chi Beginner book, which I am still selling only selected pages photocopied...

My / our publishing company is Shaolin Communications. We sell a few Buddha Kung Fu Student Manuals per week, but we need to print/publish more... and I'm without a computer currently. My iMac G5 died after the 3-year warranty and I'm using a 1999 iMac Blueberry which is incapable of using the programs I have/need to work with.

Since students are donating to Buddha Kung Fu, I'm considering relaunching Tai Chi Youth next year. I need help in administrating and running our Kung Fu school and perhaps that will work out better.

Buddha Kung Fu is the ultimate school for Americans, but I'm not making enough money with two classes at the YMCA and 8 students at CV Park.

Give me your suggestions.

Confucius Wisdom

Did you travel LEVEL 2 section of www.americanZEN.org?

You better.

If you haven't--GO DO IT NOW.

Okay. Done?

Good.

Remember, Buddha Kung Fu is more than just jumping around kicking and punching invisible enemies. We are developing your MIND and your SPIRIT.

This past year, I've been writing a new book, HUMAN VALUES FOR SUCCESS IN FAMILY AND BUSINESS. This book is based upon my studying Confucius this past year.

I'm at the end of my being a Mr. Mom. In 1990 I DECIDED to have a family. I DECIDED to have children. I also decided and Michelle agreed, that since I already operated a home-based business, that I would raise the children if I could not support them from my Shaolin Records record company, and that she would be the "bread winner - person going to a job" if we needed more money.

Perhaps it would have worked out fine if we'd stayed in Los Angeles where I had developed many connections and jobs in the record business, movie business, photography business, and performing night clubs with my band, then titled, COYOTE GRAVEYARD.

Michelle thought it would work. I was making money, had some screenplay deals going, and was really hoping to launch my Shaolin Music publishing company which had several songs in movies that year.

However, in 1991, I made the huge mistake of moving to Salt Lake City, Utah. Mistake? Well, considering that I would not have put so much effort into becoming a Kung Fu school had I stayed in L.A... But right now, despite all of my Kung Fu and Tai Chi successes, books written, people helped and lives saved, I'm too poor to buy a computer and I don't have a car.

Anyway, my book, HUMAN VALUES FOR SUCCESS IN FAMILY AND BUSINESS, is my attempt to learn from Confucius what I did wrong, how to do it right, and how to help other people avoid the mistakes I've made. What is this compelling urge I have to always help everyone? Of course, I do hope to sell some books and make some money... but I've spent many hours this past year studying and writing this book so that I can be successful with the rest of my life and change my current path.

This book is almost done.

For now, travel the American Zen journey, to see where I've been.

Tai Chi Youth to be Launched

I've been working with the Los Angeles and Glendale SBA, Small Business Administration, to create a business plan for Buddha Kung Fu.

Based upon the shaolinINTERACTIVE.com website videos, Buddha Kung Fu could be very profitable and ...

However, when we were all done with my Buddha Kung Fu business plan, we assessed my assets, and I was told that without property, stocks, investments, business assets... I couldn't get a bank loan for a pair of shoes.

They did help me write up some proposals for investors, but they said that any investor would be investing in ME, not the business, since the business had no assets.

I was okay with that and pursued investors for the past two months... but didn't find anyone with $88,000 to invest in ME.

Even though, the SCORE advisors at the SBA, assured me that for $88,000 this business would be a success, without that much money, I wouldn't be able to get the business off the ground. I need to rent a property for a year while making the videos and launching the online classes. I need a secretary/membership director, a marketing person to get contracts and clients, and all the equipment and furnishings... and I only need $88,000. That's not much to start a business. Back in the 1970s I was a contract bidder for Ernest Hahn and I supervised the building of stores in malls that cost over $125,000.

So I went back to the SBA and we rewrote the Buddha Kung Fu Business Plan into the TCY 2011 Business Plan. I don't care which way it goes, whether I own the business or just work for it, I just want to make these 66 videos of shaolinINTERACTIVE.com and be able to support my family.

So, I need a BOARD OF TRUSTEES for Tai Chi Youth.

Give me recommendations. Who do you know who's worked for a nonprofit?

TCY Online School = shaolinINTERACTIVE

I've got a new business plan to finance the TCY Online school.

It needs donations and grants to get started but will eventually be self-supporting with online lessons and videos.
